I’ve just heard about this on the old Face vine. Sounds great.

An Article about us and the Sustainability Expo. Printed in the Sunday Mercury.
Sustainability Expo Report
Hobart Bike Kitchen’s presence at the Sustainability Expo was a great success.
In the end we sold 14 bikes, some of those were at auction which was some entertainment. I’m not sure if the crowd was laughing with us or at us! We raised over $600 in funds which will be put to good use in the future.
The expo was also an opportunity to talk to heaps of people and get the word out. Contacts we made during the weekend should lead to some great opportunities for us to get out into the community. We are especially excited with some kids summer programs that will soon be organised.

Thanks to everyone who came along and had a chat to us, it was great to talk to you all.
Special thanks to those who helped it happen: Wade and Mick for helping manning the stall, Andy and Rodger for providing some of the bikes and the sustainability expo crew for putting on a great event.
Thanks also to Tim for the above photos, and to Simon for the shade tent.
We’ve had some lovely feedback since the event, and here’s a quote from Bronwyn
“I am the very excited new, old bike owner who fixed their bike up with a new gear cable on Sunday at the Sustainable Living Expo. When I got home my friend and I got out the tools and added more features like lights and a bag rack. Anyway today is a beautiful day, but I am at work with this new bike love in my heart, it’s distracting and I haven’t even taken it for a proper ride yet. I can’t stop thinking about how important the work you’re doing is for the community and I wonder if through my work I might be able to help get your message out there.”
We want to spread more bike love.
Raleigh Medale
We have never seen so many shades of brown and beige. This bike has it going on.

This Bike as well as many others will be available at Auction this weekend at the Sustainability Expo. If your after a bike come along and bid generously. All funds raised go to making HBK bigger and better.
Constructive Summer
Exams are over. It sometimes isn’t raining. It must be approaching summer.
HBK will be in full swing at this weekends Sustainability Expo. Hope to see you there.
We have big plans for Hobart. They are something like this. enjoy.

Sustainable Living Expo – here we come
Last Sunday was another super Sunday Session, and it was great to have Chris and Chelsea with us.

We’ve got a load of bikes ready for the Sustainable Living Expo this coming weekend and we’d love to see you there.
We also plan to have some auctions throughout the Saturday and Sunday so if you’re interested in getting on the road with a super HBK bike come along and have a look.
Anything we raise from the weekend will help us to get some more tools and parts etc… so that you’re able to come to Bike Kitchen and get involved with building the bike that’s just right for you. Whether it’s for the quick trips around the neighbourhood or your around Australia tourer (go Danny!) you’ll be able to create what you need.
We still need some more friends of Hobart Bike Kitchen to help us man the site over the weekend, if you can help please get in touch at hobartbikekitchen@gmail.com
If everyone on the planet did get everything they ever wanted, we would have disappeared from existence a long time ago.
A great quote from Andy Vagg who came along to a Sunday Session and has given the HBK heaps of useful advice and inspiration.
Check out his Site were the humble 10 Speed Road Bike is celebrated.
Andy is also involved in the AppleLand a exhibition of pictures that have been salvaged from McRobies Gully Waste Management Centre in South Hobart, Tasmania by Resource Work Cooperative.
Sunday Session 18/10
This Sundays Session was the best yet.
More bikes were completed for the Sustainability Expo. We had people along learning skills and building up their bikes, people coming along to find frames and parts and amazing people donating their time and their stuff to Hobart Bike Kitchen. Thanks to everyone involved!
A Special shout out goes to Rodger Willows whose donations nearly doubled the amount of bikes we have as well as including boxes of parts and tools! We are still sorting through what we received (and trying to fit it all in our Shed!) No doubt his generosity will let us help heaps of people onto their bikes this coming summer.
To those of you who have contacted HBK about donations, thank you and we will try to get in touch with you tomorrow. Its a very busy time for all the volunteers at HBK and pickup of your donations is complicated by the fact I’ve finally gotten rid of my ute and therefore am in the enviable position of being car free. We will organise something with you soon. Thanks for your patience.
With all the bikes and action happening at the HBK headquarters, we are fast running out of storage space. Long-term we are always interested in any offers of a secure space closer to the Hobart CBD. If you have any information about any unused space, please hit us up.
Sadly, there won’t be a Sunday Session next weekend(25/10) as some key members will be unavailable. So we hope to see you all the weekend afterwards.

HBK and the ABC

You might have heard us on ABC local radio at Ride to Work Day.
Now you can read the article from ABC Local http://www.abc.net.au/local/stories/2009/10/14/2713618.htm?site=hobart
Also thanks to everyone who came up to ask about what we’re doing, lot’s of positive comments so we hope to have more bodies at the next Sunday Session and some more donations coming our way.
(and thanks to my Dad for the HBK sign)
