and so we’re incorporated

Does it really matter to getting more bikes on the road, probably not.

But anyway we’re incorporated now which allow us to do a number of things

Act as an Organisation – to get a bank account, sign a lease or register trailer as HBK we need to be incorporated.

Tax Deductible – once incorporated we can apply to ATO to be a charitable organisation and then donations can be made tax deductible

To be able to apply for any other grants we’ll need to be incorporated as govt. will only provide funds to incorporated bodies. We’ve really appreciated the help from Bike Tas. but this will allow us to apply in our own right.

You can see theCertificate of Incorporation and our Constitution.

Sunday 4th July, posted with vodpod

Beautiful, finally worked out how to embed the Picasa slideshow into a WordPress.com post. See the earlier post https://hobartbikekitchen.org/2010/07/18/4th-july-slideshow/

4th July slideshow

When I get this right the below will be a Picasa slideshow rather than a link but in the meantime here are some images from what was a super 4th of July at Bike Kitchen.

it was nearly all too hard. We’re a wordpress.com site and can’t use the plugins that would do this.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you’re interested, or so I can remember what I did, here’s how to embed using VodPod.
Get the VodPod account.
Get the photos loaded from Picasa to Picasaweb.
In Picasaweb on the RHS find the Embed Slideshow link, choose the options you want and then copy the embed slideshow code.

Back on VodPod use Add Video and paste the code copied above. This should get the slideshow saved to VodPod.
As per http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/vodpod/ should be able to to create a new post.

There is also a Vodpod widget to embed video into sidebar, but that’s a bit hard to view (or so I reckon).

HBK 4th July 2010

Post Canberra post

The nomination for the Australian Cycling Awards was great recognition of what the Hobart Bike Kitchen is trying to achieve in creating a better, more bicycle friendly community.

So Gus and Pete got themselves organised and headed off to Canberra to rub shoulders with the great and good of the cycling world.

Pete also did an interview with Ryk Goddard of ABC Radio.

We didn’t ride off with a gong, but just being nominated in our first year was outstanding.

Mark did a follow up with Chris Wisby to keep promoting the HBK name.

HBK back with the MRC

It was sweet. We packed up the trailer, picked up some crew in town and headed to the Pulse centre in Glenorchy.

Just about all the bikes we brought along rolled out the door in operational order with a smiling customer aboard. A couple of projects that people brought along were also rejuvenated successfully.

At it again next week. Check out the pics.

Canberra here we come.

if you’ve been looking at the upcoming events you’ll have seen a entry about our invitation 2009 Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards.

Here’s the details of the event. Thaknks goes out to whoever nominated us, and it’s a wonderful addition to the recognition we’ve had from you all this year. Take a bow all the supporters of Hobart Bike Kitchen.

On behalf of the Cycling Promotion Fund, I congratulate you on being nominated for the Special Achievement Award by a Bicycle Organisation in the 2009 Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards and officially invite you to attend the official presentation of the Awards at the Old Parliament House, Canberra on Wednesday 16th June 2010.

The Awards recognise success in getting more Australians physically active on two wheels and this year we are delighted to have received an extremely high calibre of nominations from all parts of the country. They recognise both the professionals and ordinary Australians who are creating a better, more bicycle friendly community.

The Cycling Promotion Fund is delighted that the Heart Foundation is the principal partner for this years Awards. The support from the Heart Foundation for the Awards comes at a time of increasing concern about rising obesity and falling levels of physical activity among our school children and Australian families. Tony Stubbs, Heart Foundation CEO – ACT will deliver the welcoming address.

The Hon Maxine McKew, Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government will be the key note speaker. Ms McKew’s portfolio responsibilities have a direct impact on cycling, active transport and the investment in healthy communities and her views will be eagerly sought by Award winners, industry and government stakeholders as we head to the next Federal election.

Stephen Hodge Vice President, Cycling Australia; Board Member, Amy Gillett Foundation; Olympian and six time Tour de France finisher will be the Master of Ceremonies and members of all political parties will join us to recognise the great contributions made by individuals and organisations.

Further information, including details of award categories and past winners, is available from the Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards website: www.cyclingawards.com.au

Wholistic Bike Kitchen – Updated

The Hobart Bike Kitchen is obviously about bikes, and we’re big on bike love but we’ve room in our hearts for many other aspects of what goes to make a great community.

Hence our enthusiasm for working with the Hobart Migrant Resource Centre ,
our great respect for all the good things coming from Healthy Transport Hobart

and now I’d like to add a promotion for the Lindisfarne Community Garden Group

I urge you to go to their site and sign the e-petition by the end of the month to encourage the establishment of Clarence’s first community garden at Beltana Park, which would be beautifully situated close to public transport and the bike path around the Lindisfarne foreshore.

While we’re talking about good community here is a wonderful combination of care & compassion & bikes & youth.

Biking for Brightside

Hi, I’m India Furst and I’m 13 years old. On May 27 I will be leaving Launceston on my bike to ride 240 km to Brightside Farm Sanctuary in the Huon Valley to raise awareness of the plight of factory farmed and neglected animals and to support the work that Emma Haswell does at Brightside to rescue, rehome, and advocate for them.

If you would like to help too by sponsoring my ride, then please go to http://www.bikingforbrightside.weebly.com. Donations over $2 are tax deductible and can also be sent to me at PO Box 751, Rosny, 7018 (for “Brightside Farm Sanctuary) or email me at: bikingforbrightside@hotmail.com.

There’s something going wrong around here

Well there isn’t actually anything going wrong around here, quite the opposite.

The post was going to be titled “There’s something going on around here” but apparently that’s a mondogreen.

Either way I’m more Joe Jackson than Kid Courageous, and as for pretty girls I think I should just concentrate on the bikes being turned out from the Bike Kitchen, and at least you’ll be able to take one home tonight when you come to Bike Kitchen.

Which is all just a lead in to some more photos of one of our recent Sunday Sessions.

You can see one of the new acquisitions is a tandem. We’re planning to make that the HBK special events bike, so we’d love to have you come along and give us a hand to have it/her looking and running beautifully.

Hopefully by the next Courteous Mass or so we’ll be able to lead the way on a bicycle built for two.

Bike Kitchen radio recording

Thanks to Liam at Healthy Transport Hobart for a great post which brings together some of the discussions that have been happening on ABC radio on bikes, bike lanes and the like.
